The Good, The Glad and the Hungry

What is Tex Mex?

What is Tex Mex. Tex Mex is the blending of 2 food cultures. Take the meats and cheeses of north of the Rio Grande and combine these with the flavours and ingredients found over the border in Mexico and you have some of the heartiest food to ever travel over your tastebuds. This is good food developed to feed the ranchers in the wild west after a long day on the cattle drive.

Rio Grande Paignton are both ideal places for you to experience tasty food at a reasonable price.

If anyone has ever asked you “Where is the nearest Tex Mex to me?” or “What exciting food can I eat in Paignton?” then we have the answer for you. Just mosey along to the Rio Grande in Paignton, right next to the harbour to enjoy some of the best Tex Mex this side of Mexico.

For those of you that think that you have a big appetite then why not attempt our “Hank’s starvin’ challenge”. The Rio Grande’s very own Man vs Food challenge. This is a big test for a big appetite. Beat it and end up on the champions “Wall of fame” with one of our coveted Hank Starvin’ T-Shirts to take home.

What people say about us

Came to the Newton Rio for a work outing over Christmas (although we had the ordinary non-Christmas menu). The food was fantastic - I had the calamari for starters and the belly pork strips for main. The calamari was some of the best I've ever had, and the pork belly was perfectly cooked and very tender. The service was fast and efficient despite there being over 30 of us; I really couldn't fault any aspect of the visit.

Just celebrated hubby's birthday at the Rio Grande Newton Abbot and just had a BBQ ribs combo for 2 to share with a strawberry kiss cocktail followed by choc fudge cake and ice cream and to top it off a baileys coffee with mint. Had to follow it of with a long walk feeling stuffed will need to exercise it of tomorrow

Had a lunchtime perfectly cooked Rack of Ribs here at the Rio Grande Newton Abbot today, the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone as I lifted it from the plate!! Superbly tasty sauce and perfect fries. The staff were very attentive, polite and clean and tidy, just like the rest of the place. I only wish they were nearer to us.

Amazing all round. Have been to Rio Newton 3times in the last month and been excellent every time. The only prob is that u have to book so far ahead to get in but I guess that's a good thing really!! Lol

Been about to the Rio Grande Newton Abbot 7 or 8 times, never had a bad meal, or bad service. Always been brilliant. Will back again later in the month

This time last week I was eating the perfect burger at Rio Newton Abbot. Across the table from my beautiful fiancé. Next to me was my dad. Smiles on every face.
